Band of Brothers

In 2001, Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg were working on a project about the European liberation of the Allied forces. That was based on the book "Band Of Brothers" by Steven Ambrose. The result was a ten-hour long mini tv-series that could dig a bit deeper into several aspects of the liberation. Such as the training, Normandy, Bastogne or Market Garden. The results are awesome. They made the most historical accurate projections ever to hit the TV screen. You can not find any heroes who'll not get hit by an enemy(like in other movies or tv-series), people get killed and often no coverage is done to show the most pathetic and brutal parts of the war.

'Band of Brothers' follows Easy-company from their training in England, through D-Day, the rest of France (including Bastogne), Holland (including Operation Market Garden), Germany and Austria. Those stories have been shown to us in ten different episodes. Every episode starts with the men served in Easy-company telling about their real-life experiences. When you will watch those episodes, you might not feel to take a break, unless nature's call.

This story of Easy Company of the US Army Airbourne Paratrooper division is so unbelievably realistic, so authentic and so deep that When a character in "Band Of Brothers" dies, you mourn not because a flashback tells you they have a young sweetheart or something. But because you know this is so real, it really happened. You will realize, it is not a character you are mourning, it is a real person and you sympathize with them. The acting is superb and David Schwimmer (from 'Friends') as the bitter Captain Sobel is great. Damian Lewis and Ron Livingston are superb as Major Winters and Captain Lewis Nixon. Every actor seems to be perfect for his character. The photography and direction are great also. The actors made very strong relationships with their real-life surviving counterparts, they knew their roles inside out and the actors have portrayed them so faithfully. The truth is so accurately reproduced, there are no clichés. I especially loved the direction of the episode done by executive producer Tom Hanks. All the details have been perfectly portrayed that it makes you believe you are right in the middle of all the action. This is an outstanding achievement.

The sets are perfect, the visual effects remarkable. Everything about the production of this series is awesome, the details are so minute yet so important.

If you have the chance to see this masterpiece, do so. It is not so long, approx ten hours long mini-series. If you start watching it is very hard to stop. Definitely one of the best WW-II series out there.
